In the Vampire Survivors DLC called Ode to Castlevania, you can find 20 new characters and a slew of new weapons and shields. One of the items you can unlock is Alucard’s Shield, which is a great item. Here’s how to unlock this coveted shield.
How to unlock Alucard’s Shield in Ode to Castlevania
In order to unlock Alucard’s Shield, you need to evolve Alucart’s Sworb into Alcard’s Swords by reaching max level with the Sworb. Alcard’s Swords need to then be at max level (this will also unlock Christopher Belmont). After that, you need have five other evolved items, and you need to gain six passive items in a single run. Once you have met all of those conditions, each chest you open will have a chance to contain Alucard’s Shield.
Alucard’s Shield is a hovering shield that damages enemies around you. It also crams all of the evolved items into one single slot on your weapon bar. So you can start picking up weapons again while holding onto your old ones.
How to unlock Alucard (and also unlock Christopher Belmont)
In order to unlock Alucard so you can get his shield, you will first need to unlock Trevor Belmont. Trevor is unlocked by defeating the Giant Medusa Head with Leon Belmont, and Leon is unlocked by opening the first coffin; this coffin is located to the right of where you spawn in near the bridge to the castle.
Once you have Trevor Belmont, you can unlock Alucard by defeating the Doppelganger as Trevor. Alucard’s base weapon is called the Alucart’s Sworb, and you need to upgrade it to Alucard’s Swords by leveling it; this will also unlock Christopher Belmont.
How to defeat Doppelganger as Trevor Belmont
The Doppelganger fight is a little bit of an odd one in Vampire Survivors; the screen changes to a 2D scroller-looking screen. This will unlock your ability to actually jump, which will make the Doppelganger’s attacks easier to dodge.
Unlike the Doppelganger fight in the original Castlevania game, it won’t copy your weapons or moves, but only the way you look. No matter which character you walk into the room with or what weapons you have, the Doppelganger will only have two attacks: a dagger that it throws directly at you and a Rune Tracer-like attack that bounces around the room.
When you first enter the Doppelganger’s space, you will lose all your weapons except your base weapon; as you deal more damage to the Doppelganger, you will unlock more and more of your weapons, allowing you to do more and more damage to it. Once you have killed it with Trevor Belmont, you will have access to Alucard and his Sworb.
