Is there a GTA V mobile port? This open-world opus is still enjoyed by millions around the world, so is there actually a way to enjoy it on-the-go? Sadly, there isn’t an official GTA V mobile port, at least not yet, but our guide can show you some cheeky ways to play Rockstar’s modern classic on the go.
If you’re still on the hunt for more GTA fun, check out our GTA cheats, best games like GTA, and our findings on the possibility of a GTA V Nintendo Switch port – we only hope that it would run better than the GTA Remastered Trilogy.
Here’s how to play GTA V mobile.
Is there a GTA V mobile port?
A GTA V mobile port doesn’t exist right now, but it is possible that Rockstar Games could create a port in the future. Games like Death Stranding are getting their time to shine on mobile hardware. However, for now, GTA V still doesn’t look like it will be getting an official mobile port any time soon as Rockstar Games is busy making GTA 6.
Although, if you own GTA V on Steam, you can play GTA V by using Steam Link to access it on your mobile device. You can check out the video and written instructions below to find out how, courtesy of YouTuber ‘Android 9 Hacks’.
Is there a GTA V mobile APK?
No, there is not an official GTA V mobile APK as Rockstar Games has never released the game officially on iOS or Android devices. While some sites may claim there is an APK you can download to play GTA V mobile, it is highly likely this is a malicious APK that could compromise your handset. We recommend avoiding these at all costs, and waiting until Rockstar Games potentially provides an official mobile version of the game.
Aside from this, it is common to see some players using an emulator on an Android tablet to run operating systems like Windows, but this can prove to be unstable, and often illegal if the software and game hasn’t been purchased. Again, we wouldn’t recommend this.
Can I play GTA V on my phone?
The safest way to play GTA V mobile is through Steam Link. This works on both Android and iOS devices, but requires you to have a copy of GTA V on Steam installed on your PC. You also need to download the official Steam Link app on your mobile device. Despite what some gaming retailers in the shady parts of the internet might say, there isn’t an official GTA V port for mobile, so don’t be fooled no matter how tempting the price may be.
The good news is that you don’t need one of the best gaming phones out either. In fact, most medium- to high-range mobiles can run GTA V through this method with no technical issues. Keep in mind that you require a fast and stable internet connection with low ping to run the game smoothly on your phone, otherwise you’ll be running into some pretty severe latency issues.
Of course, before you purchase a copy of GTA V on Steam, you should make sure that your PC can handle it. Check out the GTA V system requirements and test whether your PC can run it over on PC Game Benchmark. Then, after purchasing and installing GTA V on Steam, you need to create a GTA profile and run the game on your PC.
Once you’ve got all that set up, simply follow these steps to play GTA V on mobile:
- Download the Steam Link app on Google Play or the App Store
- Open the Steam client on your PC and the Steam Link app on your phone
- In the Steam PC client, go to the ‘Steam’ tab and hit ‘settings’
- In the settings window, go to ‘remote play’ and tick the ‘enable remote play’ checkbox
- Hit the ‘pair steam link’ button below the list of devices
- The Steam Link app on your phone should scan for your PC, then provide a four-digit PIN
- Enter the PIN into the ‘authorize device’ textbox that pops up on your Steam PC client and hit ‘ok’
- After that, your device’s name should show up in the Steam PC client’s remote play window
- Wait for your Steam Link app to test the network connection, then hit ‘ok’
- Hit the ‘start playing’ button to access your Steam library on your phone
- Launch GTA V
And there you go! We also recommend that you use a controller when playing GTA V on mobile, as the touchscreen controls can be a bit cumbersome.
That’s all we’ve got on GTA V mobile for now. Of course, we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop if Rockstar ever sets its sights on an official Grand Theft Auto V mobile port.
